Building an IoT remote for your applications
These days dealing with electronics is easy and affordable. Even if we are surrounded by all kind of digital devices, sometime you feel the urge to build one of your own.
Thanks to the diffusion of Arduino (and similar) products and technologies, you can prototype and assemble custom devices will all sort of buttons, sensors and actuators aboard. Connectivity can be quickly added by technologies like WiFi or BLE.
This session will showcase a use-case I’ve explored during the Covid-19 lockdown to build a remote for some popular videocall applications (Teams, Skype, Zoom) for my daughter.
I’ve built the remote(s) using ESP8266/ESP32 chip, some cool buttons and a rechargeable battery. It is WiFi connected to the network to act as an interface for a REST server running on the computer, interacting with the videocall applications. BLE is used to accomplish configuration tasks. Hardware, firmware, software all from scratch!
